Improve Your Appearance with food

Improve Your Appearance with food

You’ve seen the advertisements of women lounging with wrapped up hair, cream covered skin, and cucumbers over their eyes. This wasn’t just to enhance relaxation by blocking the light. Cucumbers, along with other items commonly found in your refrigerator, are a home made alternative to some of the skin and beauty products you’re used to.

Cucumbers sliced and placed over your eyes have long been used as treatment to decrease puffiness. Their high water and sodium content help to cool your skin while pulling the excess water from around your eyes, resulting in a smoother and less puffy appearance. Make sure you thoroughly wash the cucumber before putting it anywhere near your face.

Something else you’re probably familiar with for non beauty reasons is caffeine. Also an at home puffy-eye remedy, tea bags are used in place of cucumbers. Other skin products are now listing caffeine as an ingredient to be applied beyond just your face. While it can decrease the redness of your skin, many are using it in creams and lotions that target decreasing cellulite.
As your skin is soaking up cucumbers or tea, the dryness of your hair might start to seem painfully obvious. Deep conditioners can get very expensive, and often leave you with the same brittle hair you had to begin with. Mayonnaise is much cheaper, and is widely recognized as one of the best ways to liven up your hair and give it an optimal sheen. The common consensus is to go for the heavy stuff—skip the “lite” versions when it comes to your hair. Leave it in for up to a half hour, but find the duration that is best for you.  If the smell is absolutely unappealing, a small amount of vanilla extract is recommended to dull it a bit.
As unconventional as using food for beauty may seem, many swear by using their own home made products, and these have stood the test of time for a reason.
